Who we are

Vion is an international producer of meat, meat products and plant based alternatives with production locations in the Netherlands and Germany. Vion has sales support offices in thirteen countries worldwide. Our four Business Units Pork, Beef, Food Service and Retail, provide fresh pork, beef, meat products, plant based alternatives and by-products for retail, foodservice and the meat processing industry.

We supply customers in our home markets of the Netherlands and Germany, as well as in other countries all over the world. Our headquarters are located in Boxtel, the Netherlands.

The Role

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category strategies for international wholesale customers and buying groups. The role combines category management, market intelligence, customer insight, portfolio optimization, and strategic collaboration with sales, marketing, and product management to drive profitable growth across multiple international markets. 

  • Act as the category expert for key international wholesale accounts, translating consumer and operator trends into actionable commercial initiatives.
  • Build category visions tailored to different customer channels, supporting strategic customer engagement and business development.
  • Create customer-specific assortment and merchandising proposals and identify growth opportunities through portfolio optimization and category expansion.
  • Analyze sales performance, distribution, and promotion efficiency, generating data-driven recommendations to improve category results.
  • Prepare dashboards, presentations, and regular performance reviews for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Systematically monitor market, competitor, pricing, assortment, and private label developments to support strategic decision-making.
  • Identify and share successful category initiatives and best practices across international markets and wholesale groups.
  • Work closely with International Head of Markets, Key Account Managers, Customer Service, Marketing, and other internal stakeholders to drive commercial success.

The profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Economics, International Business, or a related field. 
  • First experience in Category Management, Marketing, or another commercial function, ideally within Foodservice, FMCG, or Wholesale; International business experience is an advantage. 
  • Fluent in German and English, additional languages would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with a strategic, commercial, and customer-focused mindset.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cultures and international markets.
  • Curious about food, consumer, and market trends. 
  • Proactive, well-organized, and results-driven, with a hands-on approach.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced international environment.
